No, Matt - I should apologize. I'm still bitter about the time that you lied about your name for years, and I guess that's coming out now.

You kept that from me?

Not me. Never me. I'm the one person.

I'm the one person. Always.

I'm the one person, Matthew.

Oh man. This post has gotten me in so much trouble already. I think I need to go lie down for a while.

I didn't even say I hated Transformers! I just have no patience for it. Probably because my mom didn't let me watch it when I was a kid so I have no nostalgia-filled love for the property that, as Jono so lovingly pointed out, may actually be deeper than just robots that turn into things.

The License to Wed thing, however, yeah -- I may have crossed a line with that one. I sincerely apologize for that.

Also, "License to Wed" IS a pun, dolt... Robin Williams' character has a license to wed OTHER PEOPLE!!! It isn't referring to John and Mandy's marriage license. Its a pun based on the character with the most power in the story.

I started reading this site because I enjoyed your reviews of The Office, 30 Rock, and 24, but I've read some of the other posts in this blog and have come to the conclusion that you are just a pretentious elitist moron.

Transformers is an amazing movie...it isn't a great film or some kind of work of art but it isn't supposed to be. Michael Bay makes popcorn movies. If you want great plot and subtlety look somewhere else. Part of being a movie critic is understanding WHY movies are made the way they are and what purpose they are supposed to serve in society. The movie is funny, there are giant robots that turn into vehicles, what more do you need?

I meant to write that Ulysses represents our real experience of a single day, but I left out "day," so now it sounds like the book's about Luke Adams instead and that's just too perfect.

Matthew, once again, you're treading the line between congenially obtuse and too stupid for THE INTERNET. The real meaning of Transformers is apparently beyond your comprehension.

I'll explain it for you. The Autobots represent the superego that keeps society together through behavioral rules. The Decepticons are the destructive and greedy id. Though these forces are usually hidden within our psyche, they can speak to us through sublimated desires (so your appreciation for a sleek computer really represents your self-destructive need for anonymous pansexual behavior) or can more boldly transform into dominating urges that control our behavior.

We don't recognize their war in our world, but their conflict is undoubtedly the central struggle in the universe. In the same way that Joyce's Ulysses represents our real experience of a single, Mr. Bay's carefully-crafted movie represents every person's inner struggle.

Maybe you'd see that if you weren't so fucking stupid.
